About Our Practice
Swan’s a Swimmin’ Mobile Veterinary Services officially opened in May 2024 after a year-long delay caused by a devastating house fire at Dr. Marissa Swan’s home. Although the journey to opening looked very different than expected, Dr. Swan never lost sight of the mission behind the practice: to provide compassionate, accessible veterinary care to pets and the people who love them.
The heart of the practice was built around helping families who struggle to access veterinary care due to transportation barriers. Dr. Swan is especially passionate about serving pets and owners in senior communities, nursing homes, hospitals, and similar settings, where the human-animal bond can be especially powerful. She believes pets provide comfort, companionship, emotional support, and even cognitive benefits—helping keep minds engaged and hearts full.
As the practice has grown, so has its reach. In addition to traditional house calls, Dr. Swan enjoys providing community-based care for feral and underserved dog and cat populations by offering wellness exams, parasite prevention, and vaccines at discounted rates for caretakers managing neighborhood cats or larger community animal populations. These services are intended to make veterinary care more accessible in situations where animals may otherwise never receive medical attention. Her goal is to help reduce the spread of preventable diseases and improve the overall health and welfare of animals in the community.
Swan’s a Swimmin’ Mobile Veterinary Services is also open to participating in pop-up and community events, including pet fairs, farmers markets, churches, and pet stores. Dr. Swan enjoys bringing veterinary care directly into the community and creating flexible service options that meet people where they are.
In addition, Dr. Swan works with local boarding and grooming facilities to help address minor injuries and illnesses that may arise while pets are in their care. This allows pets to receive prompt veterinary attention while saving staff valuable time and reducing the need for transport to a traditional clinic for issues that can often be managed efficiently on-site.
Above all, Dr. Swan understands that no pet and no pet owner are the same. Every family has different challenges, priorities, and limitations, and she is passionate about creating individualized treatment plans that serve the best interests of both the pet and the owner. Whether that means pursuing gold-standard medicine or a more practical “not gold-standard, but my pet is comfortable” approach, Dr. Swan believes veterinary care should always be compassionate, realistic, and centered on quality of life.
At Swan’s a Swimmin’, the goal is simple: make quality veterinary medicine more accessible and affordable—one house call, one community event, and one animal at a time.
